Memorable seasons by Nicholas Paul and Teniel Campbell saw the national cycling pair honoured as the top T&T athletes when the First Citizens Sports Foundation held its annual Sports Awards and Hall of Fame Induction ceremony which for the first time was not done in front of a live audience because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which is currently affecting all countries the world over. T&T is currently on a national lockdown and the government has restricted gathering to no more than five persons in any one place at time.

IN 124 YEARS, FROM THEIR REVIVAL BY PIERRE DE COUBERTIN UNTIL THIS WEEK’S DECISION TO POSTPONE THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN TOKYO FROM 2020 TO 2021, THE OLYMPIC GAMES HAD NEVER BEEN POSTPONED. BUT THE 20TH CENTURY’S TWO WORLD WARS LED SEVERAL EDITIONS TO BE CANCELLED. LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE GAMES THAT WERE CAUGHT IN THE UPHEAVALS OF MODERN HISTORY.

MORE THAN 1,600 ATHLETES FROM 185 NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEES (NOCS) AND THE REFUGEE ATHLETES WHO ARE BENEFITING FROM THE OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY PROGRAMMES RELATED TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES TOKYO 2020 WILL CONTINUE TO ENJOY THIS SUPPORT UP TO THE GAMES OF THE XXXII OLYMPIAD, WHICH WILL NOW BE CELEBRATED FROM 23 JULY TO 8 AUGUST 2021.
